Whiplash and low back pull are characterized by muscle spasm, which results from the cellular trauma and compounds the actual injury. The principal cause of muscle spasms is inflammation of the nerves. When the muscles, usually in the neck, jaw, or lower back, become traumatized by injury and compounded by strong emotion, they often become deeply traumatized and begin producing inflammatory chemicals in a desperate call for help. When the nerves become inflamed they produce excess acetylcholine a neurochemical that causes muscle contraction, the muscles go into spasm, creating vertebral compression, nerve impingement, and sometimes-herniated disk. This reaction creates more nerve irritation and more acetylcholine, which only intensifies the spasm cycle, and makes the condition even more debilitating. The unpredictable sound waves of the Infratonic 8000, however, effectively dissolve cellular trauma, helping to stop excess inflammation and relieve pain quickly. As the cells stop producing inflammatory chemicals, they begin generating healing chemicals that pave the way toward accelerated recovery. In cases of stubborn spasm, applying an ice gel pack, then the Infratonic over it, calms the nerves more rapidly for deeper, longer lasting muscle relaxation and relief from pain." I find the Infratonic particularly effective in relieving pain associated with TMJ. Using low intensity, patients place the transducer on the site of pain for ten minutes. Occasionally, some patients may complain of increased pain shortly after treatment, but the pain only lasts about a day—then they usually report a great reduction in discomfort. "-Emery L.
